The 9th Regional Forum on Chemicals Management, held in Vung Tau, Viet Nam from 29 June to 1 July 2015, highlighted the need for regional enforcement cooperation in combating the illegal trade in chemicals. UNEP made a presentation on the history and achievements of the Regional Enforcement Network for Chemicals and Waste (REN). The participants expressed strong interest in the REN trade data analysis, enforcement operation facilitation, enforcement award and approaches in the handling of seized goods. They pointed out that some banned pesticides were still sold in markets in Lao PDR and Cambodia, and there was an urgent need to strengthen border control on the import of chemicals.
The 9th Regional Forum on Chemicals Management was organized by the Swedish Chemicals Agency (KemI), in cooperation with Vietnam Chemicals Agency. The main objective of the 9th Forum was to continue the building of a regional meeting place for development cooperation, training and networking in chemicals management, and to introduce participants to specific chemicals management issues. The meeting was attended by 76 officers from governmental agencies of Cambodia, Lao PDR, DPR Korea, Myanmar, Thailand and Viet Nam, as well as representatives from FAO, UNEP and a few NGOs.
